Pergola Builders & Contractors in Utah

Custom pergolas engineered for Utah snow and wind, freestanding, attached, or motorized louvered.

Pergola Styles We Build

A pergola isn't one product. These are the styles we build most, and when each one makes sense.

Freestanding pergolas

A standalone shade structure that can go anywhere in the yard: over a patio, a dining area, a hot tub or a fire feature. Because it doesn't touch the house, it avoids roofline and siding details, and it can sit where the shade is actually needed.

Attached pergolas

These extend off the house and tie into existing framing, so they shade a back door, deck or patio directly. The connection to the house needs proper flashing and water management, which is why an attached pergola often costs more and is more likely to need a permit.

Motorized louvered pergolas

Rotating slats you can open for sun or close for shade or a passing storm, controlled from a wall switch or your phone. They need electrical work and a more involved installation than a fixed-roof pergola.

Modern and traditional designs

We build in cedar for a warm, natural look, and in dark-stained or black-finished frames for a cleaner, more modern one. We also build timber pergolas over hot tubs, outdoor kitchens and fire features, with the framing and electrical planned in from the start rather than added after the fact.

Wood or Aluminum? Materials Built For Utah

We build in cedar for a warm, natural look, pressure-treated lumber for a durable and economical frame, and low-maintenance aluminum and composite systems for homeowners who want to skip the annual staining and sealing that wood needs in Utah's dry air and intense summer sun. Wood has the most traditional look but needs periodic staining or sealing. Aluminum needs little maintenance and doesn't rust, but it usually costs more upfront. We'll walk you through the tradeoffs for your project rather than defaulting to one material.

What Does a Pergola Cost in Utah?

Every pergola is priced after we see your yard, because size, material, roof style, footings and how it connects to your home all move the number. As a general guide, a professionally installed pergola often costs about $2,100 to $6,400. A 10-by-10 commonly runs about $2,000 to $6,000 installed and a 12-by-12 about $2,900 to $8,600, large custom pergolas can run $8,000 to $15,000 or more, and motorized louvered systems can range from $15,000 to $50,000. These are estimates checked in September 2026, not a quote. Read the full breakdown in How Much Does a Pergola Cost?, or ask for a free in-home estimate and 3D mockup.

Our Pergola Construction Process

Design & Planning

We start by understanding how you'll actually use the pergola, dining, relaxing, or entertaining, then design around that. We provide a free in-home estimate and a 3D mockup so you can see the size, placement, post spacing, and beam layout against your own house before we build anything.

Engineered For Real Snow And Wind Loads

Utah's snow load and freeze-thaw cycles are not optional design considerations. We place concrete footings below the local frost depth, typically 30 inches or more, and size posts, beams, and hardware for your city's actual snow load and wind exposure rather than a generic span table. Ground snow load rises with elevation, and wind exposure depends on the lot, so the numbers differ from town to town. See your area's details on the city pages below.

Complete Project Management

We coordinate everything for your pergola build, permits, material delivery, construction scheduling, and final cleanup, so you're not managing multiple trades or guessing at your timeline.

Permits and HOA Approval

Rules vary by city and project. An attached pergola, a taller structure, added electrical or a larger footprint is more likely to need a permit, and HOA design rules can add another review even when the city doesn't require one. We confirm requirements with your city before we build, and as a licensed and insured contractor we handle the permit, engineering, and inspection process when your project needs it.

Pergola FAQ

How much does a pergola cost in Utah?

A professionally installed pergola often costs about $2,100 to $6,400, with large custom designs reaching $8,000 to $15,000 or more and motorized louvered systems costing more. These are estimates from September 2026. The final price depends on size, material, roof style, footings and how it attaches to your home, so we price each one after seeing your yard.

Do I need a permit for a pergola?

It depends on your city and the project. Attached pergolas, taller structures, added electrical and larger footprints are more likely to need one, and an HOA may require approval either way. We confirm the requirements with your city before we build.

Should I choose wood or aluminum?

Wood looks the most traditional but needs periodic staining or sealing in Utah's sun and dry air. Aluminum needs little maintenance but usually costs more upfront. We'll go through the tradeoffs for your yard and budget before you decide.

Can a pergola attach to my house or deck?

Yes. An attached pergola ties into existing framing, and the connection needs proper flashing and water management, so we inspect what it's attaching to first. An attached pergola can be built together with a new deck or added to an existing one.

Does a pergola need to handle snow?

Yes. A pergola with a louvered or solid roof has to carry snow as well as resist wind, and ground snow load depends on your elevation. We design the footings, posts and connections for your site's actual loads.
